Barroz Day 2: Mohanlal's Film Experiences Heavy Decline Amidst Tough Competition
3 months ago | 5 Views
Mohanlal's directorial debut, Barroz, experienced a significant decline in its performance on Day 2, failing to maintain the initial momentum it had garnered. The film fell nearly one crore behind its rival, Marco, at the domestic box office.
The 3D feature had an impressive opening, earning Rs 3.45 crore in Indian markets and achieving a total worldwide collection of Rs 5.5 crore on its first day. However, it could not replicate this success on Day 2. Although a decrease was anticipated due to December 26 being a weekday and a working day for many, the film's collection of Rs 1.65 crore on Day 2, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk, represents a substantial drop.
Barroz fails to sustain momentum on Day 2 at the box office
The producers of Mohanlal's directorial have not disclosed the film's budget, which is primarily regarded as a passion project for the renowned actor. However, it is anticipated to be around Rs 40 crore, taking into account the advanced technology employed and the extensive time dedicated to its production. The project required over 1300 days of effort to complete, facing delays due to the pandemic and the actor's other obligations.
Given the film's predominantly negative reviews, Barroz may ultimately result in financial losses for the producers. The satellite and OTT rights have already been acquired by Asianet and Disney+ Hotstar.

Could Barroz's box-office collection pick up during the weekend?
A significant evaluation awaits the film this upcoming weekend, as it may still emerge as the preferred selection for families, particularly in light of the presence of Rifle Club and Marco—two other Malayalam films currently screening in Kerala, both of which are action-oriented.
The underwhelming box office results of Barroz highlight the challenging year Mohanlal has experienced. His initial release for 2024, Malaikottai Vaaliban, also fell short of expectations. This film, which garnered mixed reviews, was directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery.
Looking ahead, Mohanlal is optimistic about a more successful 2025, with Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum scheduled for release on January 30, followed by the highly anticipated L2: Empuraan directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran on March 27, 2025.
Additionally, he has committed to several upcoming projects, including Jithu Madhavan’s next film, Sathyan Anthikad’s Hridayapoorvam, Nanda Kishore’s Vrushaba, and another project directed by Drishyam’s Jeethu Joseph, which will be announced shortly.
