Daaku Maharaaj, the latest action-packed film featuring Balakrishna, premiered in theaters on January 12, 2025, as a special release for Sankranthi. Benefiting from the festive atmosphere, the film achieved remarkable success at the box office, amassing over Rs 84 crore net during its theatrical run. However, its release on OTT platforms was intentionally postponed. Producer Naga Vamsi had secured an agreement with Netflix, stipulating that the film would not be available for streaming for a minimum of 40 days following its theatrical launch.

Daaku Maharaaj leads Netflix rankings

The digital debut of Daaku Maharaaj occurred on February 21, 2025, although the anticipation surrounding its OTT release was relatively subdued. Historically, films featuring Balakrishna have not fared well on digital platforms, as his audience typically prefers to experience his dynamic action scenes in cinemas. Nevertheless, this release defied conventional expectations.

Surprisingly, Daaku Maharaaj dominated the Netflix charts for an entire week following its launch. A significant achievement was reached when the film attracted an impressive 2.5 million views in its opening week. As positive word-of-mouth circulated and the film began to trend on Netflix’s global rankings, viewership increased to 2.8 million in the second week, marking a record-breaking accomplishment for a Balakrishna film.

Daaku Maharaaj clocks solid views on Netflix

The creators of the film are thrilled with its success in the digital realm, with producer Naga Vamsi noting that Balakrishna's international appeal has significantly increased in recent years. The agreement for over-the-top (OTT) distribution proved to be exceptionally lucrative, as a considerable portion of the film's budget was recouped prior to its theatrical debut.

Further amplifying the film's visibility was Urvashi Rautela, whose involvement was pivotal in maintaining media attention. A controversy arose when the producers omitted her from the OTT release poster, igniting discussions across social media platforms. This unforeseen publicity only served to heighten interest in the film.

Directed by Bobby Kolli, Daaku Maharaaj marks his second successive success following Waltair Veerayya. The film features Pragya Jaiswal and Chandini Chowdary in prominent roles.

As the North Indian audience for Balakrishna’s films continues to grow, Daaku Maharaaj has surpassed 6 million views on Netflix. In the meantime, Balakrishna is actively engaged in the filming of Akhanda 2, directed by Boyapati Sreenu.
