Roaring Star Sriimurali’s first release in nearly three years, Bagheera, is currently in theatres. Based on a plot line by Ugramm, KGF and Salaar maker Prashanth Neel, Bagheera has been written and directed by Dr Suri. The film released in theatres on October 31, with versions in Kannada and Telugu only. The film, as it turns out, has already been picked up by a leading streaming platform for the digital rights and it’s not what was previously thought.

Bagheera has been picked up by Netflix, a platform that has, for the longest time, shunned Kannada movies. Hombale Films has managed the unthinkable with this deal, although, it could also be that it was sold as a Telugu original that has Prashanth Neel’s name attached to it. A streaming date, of course, is yet to be decided, but considering that initial reports of the film have been positive and bookings have seen an uptick, Bagheera is likely to become a festival hit after all.
The film, which also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Prakash Raj, Rangayana Raghu, Garuda Ram, Achyuth Kumar, and Sudharani, among others, is an origin story for the masked vigilante that Sriimurali plays. In the film, Sriimurali is a gold-medal winning IPS officer, whose efforts to root out corruption in his station limits is stemmed by superiors, following which he decides to step outside the purview of the law to save people or give them justice, as the case maybe.
Bagheera is Hombale Films’ first collaboration with Sriimurali and was in the making for a while, with the actor suffering multiple injuries during the making, including an ACL tear that kept him out of action for 6 months. The actor is yet to announce his next venture, but has vowed to do films more frequently. Sriimurali is only 23 films old in a 2 decade long career, with only 6 happening in the last decade.
