About two weeks ago, Prime Video dropped Bad Newz, available to rent. Now, after the rent window, the comedy film is gearing up for its full-fledged OTT release. Yes, the Anand Tiwari-helmed film will start streaming on Prime Video beginning September 13, 2024, at midnight. The film, which stars Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk, depicts a true story of heteropaternal superfecundation and is a spiritual successor to Good Newwz (2019). Bad Newz delves into the reproductive process of having twins born to the same mother but from different biological fathers.
Cast and plot of Bad Newz
In the film, aspiring chef Saloni Bagga (Triptii Dimri) disregards relationships in pursuit of the Meraki star. Unfortunately, her marriage to Akhil Chadha (Vicky Kaushal) ends in divorce. Her encounter with Gurbir Pannu (Ammy Virk) sets in motion a series of events that are both hilarious and crazy as she becomes involved with two guys and finds out she's pregnant with twins—one from each of them—due to an unusual ailment.
After its theatrical debut on July 19, 2024, the film became the seventh highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024, earning over ₹115.74 crore globally on a budget of ₹80 crore, with a total of ₹44.1 crore generated throughout its first weekend and an opening day collection of ₹8.3 crore.
Karan Johar officially announced the movie post-production in March 2024 and changed the titles from Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam to Bad Newz.
Amar Mohile composed the film's score, with contributions from Rochak Kohli, Vishal Mishra, Lijo George-DJ Chetas, Prem-Hardeep, Karan Aujla, and Abhijeet Srivastava.
Viral popularity and social media buzz
Interestingly, when Kaushal just swayed everyone with his moves in the Tauba Tauba song, the film grabbed all the attention, making it a topic of discussion on social media pages. Furthermore, many started creating reels, which went viral immediately. The film also has a recreated version of the Duplicate song Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam, which originally featured Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Sonali Bendre.
