Plot summary: Tale of love and identity

Namastey London tells the story of Jazz (Katrina Kaif), whose real name is Jasmeet, a young Indian woman in a relationship with an English man while living in London. Her father (Rishi Kapoor) arranges her marriage to Arjun (Akshay Kumar), a farmer characterized by his humor and practicality, due to his disapproval of her carefree lifestyle. Despite Arjun's earnest efforts, Jazz continues to mock him. This romantic comedy explores the tension between emotions and poses the question of whether love is fundamentally about giving or receiving.

The film drew its inspiration from a real-life experience shared by a friend of Akshay.

Critical and commercial success

Released on March 23, 2007, Namastey London garnered positive reviews from critics, who praised its direction, screenplay, and musical score. Akshay Kumar's performance received particular acclaim, and the soundtrack by Himesh Reshammiya was also well-received, achieving notable success on music charts with several tracks reaching number one. The film went on to become the tenth highest-grossing Hindi film of 2007, earning ₹71.40 crore worldwide. Its success marked the end of a series of box office failures that had begun with Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love in January 2007.

In addition, despite the director's assertions to the contrary, some critics noted similarities between this film and Manoj Kumar's 1970 production, Purab Aur Paschim.
