Mohanlal was anticipated to launch in 2025 at the Kerala box office with the film Thudarum, marking his reunion with Shobana after a significant break. However, the directorial debut of Tharun Moorthy faced delays, allowing Empuraan to become Mohanlal’s first release of the year. Despite facing some controversies, Empuraan has been performing remarkably well at the box office, leading to heightened interest in the upcoming Thudarum release. In a thrilling development, a crew member from Thudarum has indicated that the film is expected to premiere in April, suggesting that Mohanlal will have two consecutive releases within a month.

Is Mohanlal's Thudarum set for an April 2025 release?

The collaboration between Mohanlal and Tharun Moorthy, known for Operation Java, generated considerable excitement among fans of both the Malayalam icon and the contemporary director. Although initial reports suggested that Thudarum would be released on March 30, that date has since changed. Recently, cinematographer Shaji Kumar revealed that the production team is now targeting an April release.

In a recent interview with a media outlet, Shaji indicated that the film is expected to premiere in April, subsequent to the theatrical release of Empuraan. Various online sources are also reporting that Thudarum is anticipated to debut on April 25. Empuraan had its significant global release on March 27, and should Thudarum confirm its April 25 date, Mohanlal would experience two consecutive releases within a month.

Anticipation for Thudarum is considerable, particularly following the release of the trailer, which suggested that the film may follow a Drishyam-like narrative.

Empuraan release, backlash

Mohanlal's Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, generated significant controversy after provoking the anger of right-wing supporters. In response to the substantial backlash, the production team decided to implement 24 'voluntary cuts,' which involved eliminating various violent scenes and muting certain dialogues. Additionally, the name of actor-politician Suresh Gopi was omitted from the credits.

As the sequel to the 2019 hit film Lucifer, Empuraan was highly anticipated as one of the most awaited Malayalam films of the year. In the meantime, Lucifer is available for viewing on SonyLiv and OTTplay Premium.
