Babil Khan returns with his latest tech thriller, Logout. In this film, he portrays an Instagram influencer whose life spirals out of control when a fan gains access to his phone and all of his passwords. Prior to the film's premiere, Babil and the creators engaged in a discussion about the genre and the process of pushing the typically reserved actor to fully embrace his character.

Logout writer and director about the film

Discussing the real-life inspiration behind the film's setting, writer Biswapati Sarkar remarks, "The addiction was genuine. We observed our attention waning. Concentration on our projects diminished, and we began to realize that this was likely due to our smartphones. Upon further investigation, we discovered that this issue affects not just us, but millions of others as well."

Director Amit Golani emphasizes that they intentionally selected a relatable backdrop for the narrative. "We aimed to avoid depicting futuristic technology or a hacker scenario. The antagonist does not require any specialized skills to create chaos; rather, it is an ordinary individual who can disrupt your life simply by gaining access to your phone," he explains.

On bringing Babil's rage out

The trailer depicts Babil's character, Pratyush, becoming increasingly frustrated and irritated as an obsessive fan takes control of his life via his phone. Several scenes in the film showcase Babil expressing his rage on camera. In reference to this, Biswapati humorously remarks, "For that, we had to speak to him. It took a few takes." Amit adds, "This is where an actor's skill comes into play. When you are not being yourself, it presents an opportunity to demonstrate your abilities. During the workshops, we focused on those scenes, as we were concerned about them, and we dedicated extra effort to ensure they were effectively portrayed. By the time we began filming, we felt very confident."

Contrary to common assumptions, Babil does not find it particularly difficult to scream or cry. "Playing a mild-mannered character is more challenging for me. I can easily express anger and sadness, but that playful aspect is the hardest for me," the actor explains.

Logout also stars Rasika Dugal, Nimisha Nair, and Gandharv Dewan in significant roles. After gaining recognition on the international festival circuit, the film directed by Amit Golani is set to premiere on Zee5 on April 18.
