2 months ago | 5 Views
Baapu is another village-themed drama that received significant promotional efforts from its creators. Released on February 21, 2025, this family-oriented film unfortunately turned out to be a considerable disappointment at the box office. Despite its lack of success in theaters, the film has since gained renewed interest on OTT platforms.
Baapu OTT platform details
The latest information indicates that Hotstar has acquired the digital rights to Baapu and will commence streaming the film on March 7, 2025. This arrangement allows Baapu to be accessible on OTT just two weeks following its theatrical debut. Reports suggest that Hotstar invested a substantial amount to secure the film’s digital rights, which accounts for the expedited streaming schedule.
Veteran actor Brahmaji took on the lead role in this production, directed by Daya. Prior to its theatrical release, the filmmakers organized screenings for various industry professionals and members of the press in hopes of generating favorable publicity. Unfortunately, these efforts did not yield the desired results, as Baapu failed to resonate with audiences.

Baapu backdrop and cast details
The film stars Amani, a well-known actress from previous decades, in the female lead role. The narrative centers on a struggling farmer encumbered by significant debt. In a desperate bid to settle their financial obligations, he and his wife devise a grim plan to murder the farmer’s father in order to collect insurance money. However, their scheme leads to unforeseen repercussions, compelling them to face the consequences of their actions.
While the film's premise held potential, many critics felt that director Daya's execution did not meet expectations. The emotional journey of the protagonist as he comes to terms with his errors was inadequately depicted. Nevertheless, Amani’s performance stood out as a highlight, garnering acclaim from reviewers.
Additionally, the film features an intriguing subplot involving a mysterious idol that is pivotal to the storyline. Meanwhile, Sudhakar Reddy, known for his role in Balagam, portrays the father and provides a measure of comic relief, although his character's potential was not fully realized.
Hotstar has acquired the rights, and the OTT version will include deleted scenes to enrich the viewing experience. It is yet to be determined how the film will perform on streaming platforms. Please stay tuned for further updates regarding Baapu.
