Avengers: Doomsday – MCU, X-Men & Fantastic Four Stars Unite as Robert Downey Jr. Returns!
3 days ago | 5 Views
Following their breakout success in Avengers: Endgame six years ago, the Avengers have reunited. Marvel Studios revealed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday over a nearly five-and-a-half-hour livestream. The actors included both MCU veterans and newcomers from the X-Men universe and Fantastic Four: First Steps at 20th Century Fox. Tom Holland (Spider-Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America) were not included in the roll call, even though they are two notable actors expected to appear in one of the two halves of the movies.
MCU stars confirmed for Doomsday
Thor (Christopher Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), The Falcon (Danny Ramirez), and M'Baku (Winston Duke) were among the actors whose roles were announced.
Thunderbolts cast joins the line-up
The live stream showcased the presence of various cast members from the forthcoming May release of Marvel Studios' anti-hero ensemble film, Thunderbolts. Among those in attendance were Sebastian Stan (The Winter Soldier), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Wyatt Russell (U.S. Agent), David Harbour (Red Guardian), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost), and Lewis Pullman, who is currently identified by the character name Bob.
X-Men legends make a return
The cast of the 2000 film X-Men was also disclosed, including notable stars such as Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James Marsden (Cyclops), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique). This film marked the beginning of Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige's career as an assistant.
Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast), both of whom featured in X-Men: The Last Stand and The Marvels (produced by 20th Century Fox), will be joining the cast. Channing Tatum, who made his first appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, is also set to appear in Doomsday. He was once linked to a Gambit film project, which ultimately did not come to fruition.
Fantastic Four cast confirmed
Joseph Quinn (The Human Torch), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing), Vanessa Kirby (The Invisible Woman), and Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic) are all part of the Fantastic Four cast.
The casting announcement of Tenoch Huerta Mejía, known for his role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as Namor was initially a surprising development. However, his return to the Marvel franchise became uncertain following allegations of sexual misconduct, which he strongly denied as false and entirely unfounded in June 2023. Amidst the media turmoil, he stepped back from a Netflix project, yet he appeared to maintain a positive relationship with the studio, as evidenced by his attendance at the screening event for Marvel's Echo.
Marvel hints at more cast reveals
Sources indicate that Marvel has additional cast members yet to be announced, although the timing and manner of this reveal remain uncertain. The initial announcement featured 26 actors.
This was a customary event. A director's chair displaying the name of a celebrity was introduced. The title and chair would rotate approximately every twelve minutes, coinciding with the theme music from the next actor's film. The segment concluded with Robert Downey Jr., portraying Doctor Doom, signaling for silence to the camera while a new rendition of Alan Silvestri's Avengers theme filled the atmosphere.
Russo Brothers and Downey reunite for Doomsday
Fans were shocked to hear about Downey's surprise return to the MCU after retiring the character of Iron Man with Endgame when Marvel initially unveiled Avengers: Doomsday during July's San Diego Comic-Con. During their departure from the MCU during Endgame, the Russo Brothers—also known as Marvel's most popular filmmakers—and Downey—the studio's most popular actor—were reunited in this move.

After Downey persuaded the Russo Brothers to come back to the fold after a half-decade of working in the streaming movie industry, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige initially pitched the notion of Downey returning as Doom. Following Stephen McFeely's insightful perspective, the trio made the decision to reunite.
On May 1, 2026, Doomsday will be released, and on May 7, 2027, Avengers: Secret Wars will be the sequel.
