Vijay Sethupathi portrayed the villain alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the Hindi film Jawaan, which was directed by Atlee. Subsequently, it appears that the actor is set to collaborate with Atlee once more for a project under the latter's production.
During the promotional activities for Varun Dhawan's film Baby John, which is being produced by Atlee, the director confirmed his partnership with Vijay Sethupathi. "The film is currently in the early stages of production and is anticipated to commence filming soon. It is an exceptional project, and we have been developing it for the past two years. It features Vijay Sethupathi sir," Atlee disclosed in an interview with Pinkvilla. Additional information regarding the project has yet to be disclosed, although an official announcement is expected shortly. Reports indicate that Balaji Tharaneetharan, known for Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, is set to direct the film.
In the meantime, Vijay Sethupathi is looking forward to the release of his Tamil film Viduthalai - Part 2, directed by Vetrimaaran. The film is slated to premiere in theatres on December 20.
Is Atlee's Baby John a remake of Theri?
Atlee has produced the Hindi film titled Baby John, featuring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi in leading roles. The film is scheduled to be released on December 25, coinciding with Christmas. Additionally, Salman Khan will make a cameo appearance, while Zara Zyanna and Jackie Shroff will also play significant roles.
According to reports, the film is being described as a remake of Atlee’s Tamil film Theri, which starred Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson. However, Varun Dhawan has stated that Baby John is not a direct remake but rather an adaptation that incorporates substantial changes, ensuring it will not replicate the original film frame by frame. Baby John is produced by Jio Studios, Cine1 Studios, and A for Apple Productions. For those interested in viewing Theri, it is available for streaming on SunNXT and OTTplay Premium.
