Jofin T Chacko made his directorial debut with the film The Priest, featuring the renowned Malayalam actor Mammootty, which premiered in 2021. Nearly four years later, the director returns with his new project, Rekhachithram, starring Asif Ali and Anaswara Rajan. In a recent interview, it was disclosed that Rekhachithram was originally intended to be his first film. Asif Ali elaborated on the reasons for the current production of Rekhachithram and how the success of The Priest facilitated this endeavor.

Asif Ali on Rekhachithram

In an interview, the interviewer highlighted that Rekhachithram was initially Jofin T Chacko’s first aspiration, although The Priest featuring Mammootty was produced beforehand.

Asif Ali, the lead actor of Rekhachithram, provided clarification on this matter, asserting that this decision was indeed appropriate.

“When I first encountered the narrative of Rekhachithram, my immediate reaction was to question how this film could possibly come to fruition. It was only due to the significant success of The Priest that Rekhachithram was able to be realized as a subsequent project. The production of this film required substantial support and a strong profile,” the actor elaborated, noting his success with the thriller Kishkindha Kaandam in 2024.

Mammootty’s The Priest

Mammootty, known for his collaborations with numerous first-time directors, partnered with Jofin T. Chacko for the latter's inaugural film. Released in March 2021 during the pandemic and amidst various Covid-related lockdowns, the film managed to capture the audience's interest despite these challenges. Featuring Manju Warrier in a significant cameo role, the movie explores themes of horror and suspense and is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.

Rekhachithram release date

Jofin T. Chacko's second directorial venture, Rekhachithram, featuring Asif Ali in the lead role, is set to premiere in theatres on January 9, 2025. The film, which includes Anaswara Rajan among its cast, portrays Asif Ali as a police officer. The ensemble also comprises notable actors such as Siddique, Indrans, Zarin Shihab, Harisree Ashokan, and Jagadish, contributing to a strong lineup of talent. While the trailer for Rekhachithram suggests an investigative thriller, Jofin has explicitly clarified in an interview that the film does not follow the traditional whodunnit format.
