Veteran actor Ashutosh Rana has announced that he’ll be back as Colonel Sunil Luthra in the new YRF Spy Universe films, which include the much-awaited War 2 and Alpha. In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, he shared his enthusiasm about continuing his journey in this growing franchise.

Colonel Luthra's role in the Spy Universe is pretty significant

Rana shared with the entertainment site that he’s definitely coming back to the thrilling universe that fans love. After all, Colonel Luthra plays a key role in the franchise.

The YRF Spy Universe, led by Aditya Chopra, has really taken off with hits like War (2019), Pathaan (2023), and Tiger 3 (2023). Rana’s role as the commanding Colonel Luthra has been key in tying together the different stories in the series.

With War 2 set to star Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, along with Alpha featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the buzz for these upcoming films is through the roof.

Rana is not just making a name for himself in the Spy Universe; he's also stirring things up with his new historical drama, Chhaava, which is directed by Laxman Utekar. He shared that the entire cast and crew poured their hearts into making this story come alive.

Rana mentioned that Utekar put in a ton of research, and his fellow actors have really stepped up their game. In Chhaava, he believes viewers will see genuine people on screen, rather than just actors playing roles. This film is all about characters, not just performances. When that happens, he’s confident the movie will be a big success.

Rana has shown his incredible range throughout his impressive career, from the intense character in Dushman (1998) to his memorable role in Pathaan (2023). Looking back at his varied film choices, he mentioned that his work highlights a wide array of characters with different personalities and shades. Loveyapa premiered on February 7, and Chhaava followed on February 14. Next up, he’ll be seen in the mature love story Kaushaljis vs. Kaushal on JioHotstar on February 21.

When asked about possibly returning to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe after his role in Simmba (2018), Rana kept it vague, emphasizing his commitment to exploring different characters. He expressed gratitude for the diverse opportunities he’s had, noting that the support from his fans has allowed him to portray these roles with genuine authenticity.
