Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein is the latest addition to the phenomenon of old movies re-releasing cinemas. The 2001 film, starring R Madhavan and Dia Mirza in lead roles, returned to the silver screen after more than two decades. Directed by filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, RHTDM was re-released in theatres on August 30, 2024. Post its re-release, Dia recently spoke to Hindustan Times about the initial reception of the film.
Dia Mirza on initial response of RHTDM
Recalling the initial response of Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Dia Mirza told the news publication, "It was cruel, the experience of dealing with it as a newcomer." The actress stated that back in 2001, a person was judged by his/her film's success or failure. Dia Mirza recalled there was a lot of effort put into introducing her to the industry.
However, the actress felt she had let everybody down. "I was miserable," added Dia. The film gradually resonated with the audiences and achieved a cult classic status. Talking about RHTDM's re-release in theatres, Dia mentioned, "My husband has already booked his ticket and wants to see the re-release because he didn't watch it when it released. My family too wants to go and watch it."
Continuing the conversation, the RHTDM actress revealed her 2001 film has an 'insane' repeat viewing viewership. "I have seen a lot of fans say it's time to show the film the love it didn't get in its first round," she added.
