Prithviraj Sukumaran joined hands with cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Amal Neerad in 2010, for Anwar. The action thriller film, which dealt with a socially-relevant theme, is loosely adapted from the Amercian film Traitor. Even though the film ended up as an average grosser at the box office, it earned immense love from the audiences after its satellite and digital release. As per the recent updates, Anwar is set to re-release in 4K format, on Prithviraj Sukumaran’s birthday weekend.

The makers of Anwar recently confirmed that the stylish action film is gearing up for a grand re-release in October 2024. As per the reports, the Amal Neerad directorial has been slated to hit the theatres again on October 18, 2024, in both Malayalam and Tamil languages. The movie, which has been considered one of the most underrated Malayalam films of 2000s, is hitting the theatres as a part of leading man Prithviraj Sukumaran’s birthday celebrations. For the uninitiated, the multi-faceted talent is set to celebrate his 42nd birthday, on October 16, 2024.
Anwar: Where to watch on OTT
This movie, which marked Amal Neerad’s third outing as a director, is penned by the director himself, along with Unni R. Anwar, which revolves around the titular character’s fight against terrorism in his community, features Prithviraj Sukumaran in the titular role. The Malayalam version of the film is available for streaming, on Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar. You can watch Anwar in Tamil on Sun NXT and the Telugu version, on Zee5. Both versions are also available on OTTPlay Premium.
Anwar featured Mamta Mohandas as the female lead. Prakash Raj and Lal played pivotal roles in the film, which featured a stellar star cast including Nithya Menen, Geetha, Sai Kumar, Sampathy Raj, Sudheer Karamana, Salim Kumar, Vinay Forrt, Shane Nigam, and many others in supporting roles. Gopi Sundar composed songs and original score for the film. Satheesh Kurup and Vivek Harshan handled the cinematography and editing, respectively.
