Kannada director Dinakar Thoogudeepa made his comeback with the film Royal, which hit theaters on January 24 after a six-year break. Unfortunately, it quickly started trending for all the wrong reasons. Almost immediately, the film faced a wave of negative reviews on a ticket aggregator site, dragging its average score down to just 2.8. Many of the 1-star reviews had strikingly similar phrases.

There were claims that these negative comments were orchestrated by fans of another actor who has a feud with Dinakar’s brother, Darshan, who is currently out on bail related to a murder case. On the flip side, some argued that Darshan's fans were behind both the initial negative reviews and the later positive surge, especially since the film opened to mediocre reviews and ticket sales.

While visiting a theater, Dinakar mentioned that he felt like he was caught in the crossfire of the anger aimed at Darshan. He expressed his hope that Darshan's fans would rally behind him and give the film the appreciation it truly deserves. The actress faced some backlash after mentioning in an interview that she wanted to learn Kannada from Darshan. People started mixing her comment with some of the Challenging Star's viral audio clips, where he was heard using really offensive language towards his wife and the media.

Darshan fans are really stepping up, and the film has scored over an 8 on the ticket aggregator site. It'll be interesting to see if this boosts bookings and audience turnout. For now, Royal is getting a lot of love on the booking platforms.
