Following its success at the Oscars, Anora has officially launched its full OTT release in India. Viewers can now stream the film directed by Sean Baker on JioHotstar. The comedy-drama, which premiered in 2024, was written, directed, produced, and edited by Baker himself. The story centers around Anora "Ani" Mikheeva, portrayed by Mikey Madison, a New York stripper who marries the affluent son of a Russian tycoon, played by Mark Eydelshteyn. The supporting cast includes Vache Tovmasyan, Darya Ekamasova, Karren Karagulian, Yura Borisov, and Aleksei Serebryakov.

Anora plot overview

Anora, a young woman from Brooklyn, seizes a spontaneous chance at a Cinderella story by marrying the son of an oligarch. However, when her parents learn of the marriage and travel to New York to seek an annulment, her fairytale begins to unravel.

Anora "Ani" Mikheeva, portrayed by Mikey Madison, is a high-priced dancer at the Headquarters club. The character of Ivan "Vanya" Zakharov, the wealthy son of a Russian oligarch, is played by Mark Eydelshteyn, who is frequently referred to by the anglicised name "Eidelstein."

Awards and achievements

Following its world premiere on May 21, 2024, at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, "Anora" achieved remarkable success, securing the Palme d'Or and receiving extensive acclaim. Neon subsequently released the film in theaters on October 18, 2024. Despite a modest budget of $6 million, it emerged as Baker's highest-grossing film, amassing $51.9 million globally.

The film garnered nominations for Baker, Madison, and Borisov at various award ceremonies, earning five Golden Globe nominations, seven BAFTA nominations (including Best Actress and Best Casting), and six Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture). "Anora" distinguished itself as the fourth film to win both the prestigious Cannes top prize and five Oscars, including Best Picture. Baker made history as the first individual to win all four Oscars for a single film, equaling Walt Disney's record for the most Oscars awarded in one year.

One of the top films of 2024, Anora received accolades from both the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review. It achieved a historic milestone at the 30th Critics' Choice Awards by becoming the first film to secure the Best Picture award without winning any of the other five nominated categories.
