Amaran out on OTT

We had already reported that the post-theatrical streaming rights of Amaran have been bagged by Netflix. Now, the film is available for streaming on the platform in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

Amaran is directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy and is based on the life of the late Major Mukund Varadarajan. Mukund was a commissioned officer in the Indian Army's Rajput Regiment. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his operation with the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion. The film takes inspiration from the pages of the book India's Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes, penned by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh.

With Sivakarthikeyan playing the role of Major Mukund Varadarajan, Sai Pallavi plays his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film, although set in the Indian Military backdrop, explores Mukund’s passion for joining the army as well as his love story with his wife, who he fell in love with during college and subsequently had inter-faith marriage.

Amaran is produced by Kamal Haasan under Raaj Kamal Films International and has music by GV Prakash. For this year’s Tamil cinema, which has been facing a lull, Amaran came as a breath of fresh air, bringing much-needed respite at the box office. The film’s music by GV Prakash Kumar also was welcomed by many.

The OTTplay review of the film reads, “It is a film that carries all core emotions, and even some painful ones, yet manages to be light with its clean screenplay and subtle performances.” Watch Amaran on Netflix to let us know your thoughts.
