Allu Aravind kicked off Geetha Arts back in 1972 in Hyderabad and has become one of the top producers in Telugu cinema. He’s the father of superstar Allu Arjun and is well-known for delivering quality content. His upcoming film, Thandel, featuring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, is set to hit theaters on February 7. With a budget of around ₹80 crore, the film is directed by Chandoo Mondeti and boasts music by Devi Sri Prasad.

Recently, Allu Aravind was in Chennai for the Tamil trailer launch of Thandel, a romantic action drama, and took some time to chat with Hindustan Times about the project. When asked why he chose the story of Thandel, which focuses on fishermen from Srikakulam, he shared, “I had been on the lookout for a real-life story for a while. When a young guy pitched this idea to me, I was intrigued. The original concept was more like a documentary, so we collaborated with director Chandoo Mondeti for a year to transform it into a love story set in that context.”

Regarding his choice of Naga Chaitanya, also known as Chay, for the lead role, Allu Aravind mentioned that he has known the actor since childhood. “We thought he was the ideal match for this character. Naga Chaitanya’s performance in Thandel is going to be heartwarming. He’s delivered a career-best performance that we’ve never seen from him before,” he said, expressing confidence that this film will be a major hit for the Premam star. In a light-hearted moment, he shared a funny anecdote about Chay’s beard for the role. “At his wedding, I went to congratulate him and Sobhita suddenly asked me if she could pose a question. I said yes, and she asked, ‘When will I get to see my husband’s face properly?’ I replied, ‘On February 8th!’”

Chandoo Mondeti, the director, recently mentioned that he’s now focusing solely on collaborating with producer Allu Aravind, with plans for multiple projects together. Mondeti has a track record of hits, including his latest film, Karthikeya 2, which came out in 2022 and snagged the Best Telugu Feature Film award at the 70th National Awards. He shared that Allu Aravind has shown immense faith in him, even offering a ₹300 crore budget for a film featuring stars like Suriya or Ram Charan.

When asked if he’s considering producing Tamil films anytime soon, Allu Aravind confirmed, “Absolutely! Suriya and I have been friends for ages, and I’m eager to collaborate with him. Chandoo Mondeti and I are currently in discussions with him for a project, but it’s still in the early phases.” Despite his success, Allu Aravind remains modest about his script selection process. “I can’t pinpoint what makes a script work for me. I just know that the films I choose to produce tend to do well, and I consider myself lucky,” he remarked.

Geetha Arts is behind the upcoming film Thandel, which is set to hit theaters on February 7th in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. The movie features music by Devi Sri Prasad, editing by Naveen Nooli, and cinematography by Shamdat Sainudeen.
