All We Imagine As Light bagged the Grand Prix

At the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light won the Grand Prix, which is the second-most prestigious prize after the Palme d'Or. Payal made history by becoming the first Indian to win this award.

Veteran director Shaji N Karun's Swaham (My Own) was the first Indian film to enter the main competition thirty years ago. Payal's movie was up against 21 others, such as Jacques Audiard's Emilia Perez, Sean Baker's Anora, Francis Ford Coppola's Megapolis, and Yorgos Lanthimos's Kinds of Kindness. The Palme d'Or went to Sean Baker's Anora this year. On social media, Malayalam film stars like Dulquer Salmaan, Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mammootty, and others congratulated the team.
