Ali Fazal discusses his role in the film adaptation of Mirzapur.
Ali Fazal is set to return as Guddu in the film adaptation of Mirzapur. In an interview with Mid-Day, the actor shared the rationale behind transforming the acclaimed series into a movie. "The intention is to reach audiences who are the true bearers of this story. There are numerous individuals who may not be completely engaged with OTT platforms," he stated.
The web series, which debuted in 2017, highlighted the power struggles among gangs in Uttar Pradesh. The character portrayed by Ali Fazal poses a significant challenge to the dominance of Kaleen Bhaiya within the narrative. In further discussion, Ali noted that Mirzapur struck a chord with audiences as it was among the rare productions that depicted stories rooted in local realities.
"We often discuss grassroots narratives, yet we fail to execute them effectively. This particular story stands out. It resonates with viewers because it could easily be a tale from their own community, involving individuals who have been cornered. This marked the first occasion when OTT platforms explored the intricate layers of our nation," Ali remarked.
The actor elaborated that Mirzapur established a connection between viewers and the 'individuals from the corners and backstreets' of the nation. He asserted that it addressed a gap that had emerged in the preceding decade.
