Ahmed Khan is in the final stretch of Welcome to the Jungle
Director Ahmed Khan is getting ready to wrap up filming for Welcome to the Jungle, one of the year's most eagerly awaited films. He notes that comedies have a significant advantage in the current tough box-office environment. The shoot for this star-studded project, which includes the Phir Hera Pheri trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, along with Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani from Radhe, Arshad Warsi, and others, kicked off in December 2023. Filming has progressed in stages, mainly due to the challenge of aligning schedules with such a large cast. Despite these logistical challenges, Ahmed is optimistic and focused as they approach the final phase of production.
With upcoming shoots planned in Kashmir and the UAE, the director mentions, “I’m currently organizing my schedule since we have so many actors to coordinate. They’re all quite busy, but the great part is that everyone is really excited about this film. We also have an international schedule in the works.”
He also talked about the recent downturn in Bollywood's box office performance: “In the past, we had distinct genres like art films, action flicks, and family dramas. Nowadays, a single movie is expected to cover all these bases. We also have to consider whether it will resonate in South India. Plus, there’s the difference between multiplex and single-screen audiences. All these elements are crucial to think about. People are saying films aren’t performing well, but last year, five movies each made Rs 500 crore.”
He continued, “We never imagined our industry would hit Rs 500 crore! Now, to be deemed successful, films are expected to rake in Rs 700 crore. When I’m working on my film, there’s definitely some anxiety. But we need to make it work. Comedies have a way of bringing people together. A big cast, grand scale, catchy music, and plenty of laughs will draw audiences back to theaters.”
Welcome to the Jungle is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the latter part of 2025.
