The most well-known writer in Malayalam, MT Vasudevan, has had several of his works adapted into films that have garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews from viewers. For the concepts covered, these have also been helmed as ground-breaking ones in Malayalam cinema. Manorathangal, the most recent anthology, is a visual compilation of his short stories that will be available for streaming on ZEE5 starting on August 15. A maid named Kuttimalu develops feelings for her employer's son, Haridas. But when she finds out that his marriage is fixed with his cousin Ratnam, she is in for a harsh awakening. This is the revamped version of the same-titled 1979 movie.
Perumthachan (Disney+ Hotstar)
A prominent master carpenter from a mixed background, known as a "Perumthachan," constructs temples and statues that are widely recognised throughout Kerala. The "thampurati" of the palace win his heart, but he manages to keep his distance. His son later develops feelings for the thampurati's daughter. He uses a chisel to kill the son in order to stop a scandal.
Sadayam (Sun NXT)
After committing several murders, Sathyanathan is given the death penalty. The film centres on his past, the series of incidents that led to the crime, and the unintentional effects of a recounting of the story on Dr Nambiar, the prison doctor and father of one of Sathyanathan's victims.
