Kannada writer-director-producer Hemanth M Rao's fourth production and his inaugural project under the newly established Dakshayani Talkies, titled Agnyathavasi, is now poised for its theatrical debut. Directed by Janardhan Chikkanna, known for Gultoo, the film was first announced in April 2022 and reached completion a year later, with Hemanth initially suggesting a release in mid-2023. However, this timeline was altered as Hemanth became occupied with the release of his own directorial work, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello Side A and Side B.

Agnyathavasi in theatres this April

Agnyathavasi is set to hit theaters this April. Reports indicate that screenings for the film's post-theatrical satellite and digital rights took place in November of the previous year, and these rights have since been secured. The team has now confirmed the film's release date. Following the withdrawal of Rocking Star Yash’s Toxic from the April 10, 2025 slot, Agnyathavasi will now be released alongside other Kannada films such as Vidyapati and Vamana, albeit a day later on April 11. It will face competition from films including Sunny Deol’s Jaat, Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly, Mammootty’s Bazooka, and Dhanush’s Idly Kadai, among others.

The narrative of Agnyathavasi, based on a story by Guru Krishnaraj, revolves around a mysterious crime that occurred in the Malnad region during the 1990s. The film features prominent roles played by Rangayana Raghu, Paavana, and Siddu Moolimani, with Ravi Shankar Gowda and Sharath Lohithashwa among the supporting cast. A teaser released last year showcased Rangayana Raghu discussing a 'cursed' town, where individuals who leave never return. He also alludes to a murder that is suspected but lacks any supporting evidence, emphasizing that with determination, one does not require any additional weapon.

The film features Hemanth's frequent collaborators, composer Charan Raj and cinematographer Advaitha Gurumurthy. After the release of Agnyathavasi, Hemanth is anticipated to commence his next directorial project, Bhairavana Kone Paata, with Century Star Shivarajkumar in the leading role. The actor, who has been recovering from surgery in December as part of his bladder cancer treatment, has indicated that he will begin filming, although with less physically demanding scenes, in early March. It is expected that Bhairavana Kone Paata will start production in April or May of this year.
