Aghathiyaa, a Tamil horror fantasy film featuring Jiiva in the lead role, premiered in theaters on February 28 but has experienced a lackluster opening at the box office. Directed by lyricist Pa Vijay, the film, despite its lavish visuals, failed to surpass Rs 1 crore in box office earnings on its opening day.

On its first day, Aghathiyaa reported a box office collection of Rs 76 lakh. The film, which also stars Raashii Khanna, Arjun Sarja, and others, is Pa Vijay's third directorial venture. While the film showcases a remarkable cast and includes music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, it has struggled to attract audiences.

The competition is stiff, as Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dragon, which debuted a week earlier, has achieved blockbuster status, amassing over Rs 50 crore in worldwide collections.

Aghathiyaa features a diverse ensemble cast, including Arjun Sarja, Raashii Khanna, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, and Reddin Kingsley. Produced by Dr. Ishari K Ganesh and Aneesh Arjun Dev, the film's technical team includes cinematographer Dipak Kumar Padhy and editor San Lokesh, with P. Shanmugan serving as the art director. In addition to directing, Pa Vijay has contributed as the lyricist.

The narrative of Aghathiyaa centers on an art director who transforms his film sets into a haunted house. Unbeknownst to him, he inadvertently awakens spirits from the 1940s, as he discovers that the palace was once inhabited by French colonial rulers who wronged a Siddha doctor.
