There’s no denying that Agatha All Along has given the Marvel Cinematic Universe a new direction in which the studio could thrive if they continue the quality seen in this Kathryn Hahn-led show, consistently delivered since the epic WandaVision. For over a month, we’ve been obsessed with the show as new episodes drop every Wednesday in the West and Thursdays in India. The show focuses on Agatha Harkness, the villain from WandaVision, who was locked in WestView by the Scarlet Witch after she drained all her power. In the first seven episodes, we saw her on the Witch’s Road with Billy Maximoff and her coven as they walked towards their final destination. The finale, which dropped today, was one of the most anticipated episodes, for many reasons.
Agatha All Along Ending Explained
To recap, by the end of episode seven, only three of the six who set out were alive (we don’t count Rio because she is literally Death!). So Agatha, Billy, and Jen continue on the road. Things take a turn, and we see Jen walk away with her powers, Billy with his redemption, and Agatha face Death and make a deal with her, fooling her by “killing” herself to save Billy Maximoff. By the end of episode nine, the finale, we see Billy realizing that every task, setup, and punishment on the Witch’s Road was inspired by artifacts and situations from his childhood bedroom.
And boom—the big revelation is made. Agatha returns, but as a ghost (since witches with unfinished business return), and in Harkness’s case, she wants Nicholas Scratch’s hair strand back. She confirms to Billy that the Witch’s Road was his creation all along. Yes, you read that right: it wasn’t real. Agatha had used the lore of the Witch’s Road to lure witches and drain their powers for decades, but this time, the door opened because Billy Maximoff unknowingly used his powers to create a world of his own design, constantly searching for Tommy at the end as his reward. This explains the loop that the road was.
But how did Billy manage this? He’s Wanda, aka Scarlet Witch’s, son. Scarlet Witch wielded Chaos Magic, enabling her to bend and reshape realities. Just as she created a hex and turned the entire town of WestView into her stage, Billy had everything he needed within himself to find Tommy, manifesting and shaping it into reality to form the Witch’s Road. While it’s not clear if the Witch’s Road exists on Earth-616 or another timeline, the fact that Jen emerges from the ground just outside WestView’s borders suggests it may have been buried beneath the town where Wanda cast her spell.
So, in the end, when Billy realizes it was him—and that he caused the deaths of three witches—he regrets everything. To find redemption, he closes the Witch’s Road forever, turning it into a grave for Lilia, Sharon Davis, and Alice. Later, we see Billy and Agatha (as a ghost) joining forces to search for Tommy, hinting that the show has a future.
