The scene was not just any other normal special appearance, whose only purpose was to come together to bid farewell for a superstar who quitting cinema for a larger purpose. It was one where Vijay thematically handed over his baton to Sivakarthikeyan. When at a crucial juncture of climax, Vijay uttered the words, “thuppakki pudinga, Siva,” theatres erupted. The scene had sublime meaning, given the legacy of Vijay’s Thuppaki film which catapulted him to further superstardom, and how handling over the thuppakki stands more than its literal sense.
Thuppakki gets heavier
It is no coincidence, when Sivakarthikeyan’s immediate release after The GOAT, is Amaran, a film which literally made him take up guns and rifles, to become Major Mukund Varadarajan onscreen. In one of the earliest interviews about the film, Sivakarthikeyan was asked about the weight of thuppakki, to which he replied it was indeed heavy. The actor, embodied a real personality, to be a soldier for Amaran. Subsequently, the efforts paid off, and Amaran was received well.
Amaran is a film that not only proved the acting prowess of Sivakarthikeyan but made him do the final shedding of being branded as an actor who can only pull of comic roles. Of course, his works in Doctor and Don cemented that him as a bonafide actor, enough to guarantee crores of opening. But with experimental films like Maaveeran and Ayalaan, Sivakarthikeyan zoomed past the phase of a novice star. And with Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan further went on to establish his entry into superstardom with his restrained acting and the ability to shoulder a biopic that comes with immense responsibility and respect.
All eyes on SK 23
If that is not enough, Sivakarthikeyan has already begun working with filmmaker AR Murugadoss, the man who helmed Thuppakki. With the actor upping his game notches, all eyes are on SK 23, the film is one of Sivakarthikeyan’s firsts to work with a big-league director, or in this case, a star maker, who gave Ajith, Vijay and Suriya their hits. Not much is known about SK 23, but enough can be guessed about how the project will eventually become one of the important career points in Sivakarthikeyan’s career.
