Netflix achieved an unexpected success with "Adolescence," a four-episode series that premiered on the platform on March 13. Within just a few days of its launch, the show attracted remarkable viewership and received enthusiastic reviews. Featuring performances by Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, and Erin Doherty, it has set a new record for Netflix, becoming the most-watched show in its history with an impressive 66.3 million views.

Adolescence becomes most watched show

According to a report from Variety, the show garnered 24.3 million views in its debut week, securing the title of the most-watched program globally. The following week saw even greater success, with viewership nearly doubling to 42 million. Consequently, the total viewership after two weeks reached 66.3 million, setting a new record for the platform within just 11 days, surpassing all other limited series.

In comparison, the second-most viewed show on Netflix was The Residence, which attracted 6.4 million views. This series features Uzo Aduba and is produced by Shonda Rhimes of Shondaland. Following closely was Running Point, which achieved 3.5 million views.

About the show

Adolescence, comprised of four episodes filmed in a single continuous shot, focuses on 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), a schoolboy who finds himself arrested for the murder of a fellow student.
