Filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar kicked off his directing career in Hindi films with Munjya. This horror comedy, produced by Maddock Films, did pretty well at the box office and starred Sharvari and Abhay Verma. After the success of Munjya, he released another movie, Kakuda, on ZEE5. His next project is Thama, which will star Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. Before it hits theaters, Aditya has announced plans for a historical war film.
Aditya Sarpotdar shares his vision for creating a historical movie
Aditya Sarpotdar recently shared in an interview with Mid-Day that he's excited about creating a historical war film. The director, known for his work in horror comedies, is inspired by his great-grandfather's legacy. For those who might not know, Aditya's great-grandfather, ND Sarpotdar, directed the silent film Chhatrapati Sambhaji back in 1925.
Aditya expressed his excitement, saying, "I can't wait to dive into this project. I previously worked on a historical series called The Secret of The Shiledars, but now I'm eager to create a full-scale historical war film."
He also shared some interesting history about his great grandfather's silent film, revealing that it was supported by The United Pictures Syndicate. This 1925 film marked the first time the Maratha king was portrayed on screen. During the same chat, Aditya mentioned that he told Laxman Utekar, the director of Chhaava, about this connection. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal, is also inspired by the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
"I was chatting with Laxman about how cool it is that I'm directing for Maddock, and we have the same crew—my director of photography, art director, and costume designer for Thama all worked on Chhaava too. [Chhatrapati Sambhaji] was one of the earliest films from the silent era of Indian cinema, featuring actors from various states since there were only a handful of filmmakers back then," he shared with the tabloid.
