After almost two years since its release, Malayalam filmmaker Jijo Antony’s sea-based action drama-thriller Adithattu is finally out on OTT. The movie, which has Shine Tom Chacko and Sunny Wayne in the lead, had won the Kerala State Film award for the Second Best Film last year.
Adithattu, which had completed its shoot post pandemic, had hit theatres in 2022 and despite being critically acclaimed for its storytelling and its premise, it took over two years for its makers to sell its OTT rights.

Movie | Adithattu |
OTT Release date | November 15, 2024 |
OTT platform | Manorama Max, OTTplay Premium |
Cast | Shine Tom Chacko, Sunny Wayne, Sabumon Abdusamad |
The movie is currently out on Manorama Max, where it is streaming in Malayalam. Adithattu is also available on OTTplay Premium. The film revolves around a crew of men who boa rd a shipping vessel, hoping to land a catch that would change their fortunes forever.
Set during the pandemic, the film also serves as a revenge story with Shine Tom Chacko’s character Ambrose getting on the ship, with the intention of finding out what happened to its former captain, who was found dead. How this unsettles the dynamics between the various groups of men who are on board, form the plot of the movie, which had the cast and crew enduring challenging conditions during its shoot.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Jijo said that the shoot of the film was painstaking because “everyone put their lives on the line to complete the movie, which was shot on a boat”. “Also, we filmed this when the trawling ban was enforced; there was heavy rain and the sea was tumultuous during the time,” he explained.
Why to stream Adithattu on OTT
The film is an intense and gritty revenge drama, which also has some of the best performances from its cast members, especially Shine and Sunny. While Antony Varghese’s Kondal released earlier this year, Adithattu was the first Malayalam movie to have shot extensively at sea. The movie also had a few underwater sequences. If you liked Devara: Part 1 and Kondal, then Adithattu is a must-watch on OTT.
