Mammootty had one of the biggest blockbusters of his acting career in 1986, with the IV Sasi directorial, Aavanazhi. The movie, written by T Damodharan, emerged as the all-time highest-grossing Malayalam film. Mammootty played the iconic character Inspector Balram in the film, which remains one of the top favorite action films from the megastar, for many cinephiles. After 38 years of its original release, Aavanazhi is set to hit the theatres again, in a remastered 4K format.

Aavanazhi 4K to hit the theatres in November 2024?

If the recent updates are to be believed, the remastered 4K version of Aavanazhi is gearing up for a grand re-release. According to the reports, the makers of the film are currently busy with the remastering works of the film. If things proceed at the same rate, the IV Sasi directorial might hit the theatres again in November 2024. However, both leading man Mammootty and the other team members of the film have not officially announced the same, yet.

Aavanazhi on OTT

If you are new to Malayalam cinema or is waiting to revisit the classic films yet again, Aavanazhi is available for streaming on the popular OTT platforms, Sun NXT and Eros Now. The Mammootty starrer can be also watched on OTTplay Premium. However, action thriller film is only available for streaming in the Malayalam language.

Aavanazhi: Plot, cast, and sequel

Mammootty plays the role of Inspector Balram, an honest cop who turns into drinking and womanizing after he faces a major setback in his life. However, decides to make a strong comeback after a notorious criminal named Sathyaraj (played by Captain Raju), he caught is acquitted of the offense. After the massive success of Aavanazhi, Mammootty returned to play the iconic character in its 1991-released blockbuster sequel, Inspector Balram, and the disastrous spiritual crossover sequel, Balram Vs Taradas.

Aavanzhi featured Sukumaran, Geetha, Seema, Nalini, Janardhanan, Innocent, Sreenivasan, Sankaradi, Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair, Jagannatha Varma, Augustine, Kunchan, Prathapachandran, and others in supporting roles. Shyam composed the songs and original score for the film, bankrolled by Saj Productions.
