Javed Akhtar and Aamir Khan's playful exchange
Javed Akhtar had a funny take on Aamir Khan, saying, "There are so many characters, I might forget some. Aamir was born in 1965, the same year I kicked off my Bollywood journey. I wrote his first film! While I was in Panchgani working on Faryaaz for Nasir Hussain, I spotted Aamir and instantly told Nasir he was a star. He should kick off his career with a romantic flick. That first film was produced and penned by me. Even my son’s debut film was with Aamir."
Aamir also shared a memory of waiting for Javed Akhtar to call him after he turned down a script from Farhan Akhtar. When the call didn’t come, Aamir figured that Farhan hadn’t talked to Javed, which showed that Farhan really believed in Aamir’s talent.
Javed Akhtar went on to commend Aamir Khan for his bold choices and unique film selections: “Only Aamir could have had faith in these characters and stories. He worked with Ashutosh Gowariker even after a previous flop. When Farhan Akhtar, a new director, pitched a film about three heroes, Aamir jumped on board. Who else would take on Dangal? Playing an aging wrestler who gets beaten by his daughter? Most actors stick with directors who’ve had hits, but Aamir takes risks like no one else."
