The highly anticipated action fantasy series Rakt Bramhand - The Bloody Kingdom on Netflix India has reportedly encountered significant challenges. The series, created by Raj & DK and featuring a cast that includes Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Ali Fazal, is said to be grappling with financial difficulties.
Audit uncovers financial mismanagement and irregularities
An audit has revealed instances of financial mismanagement and irregularities. According to Peeping Moon, the executive producer of the series is now facing allegations of financial theft on set, with an undisclosed sum estimated between Rs 2–3 crore reportedly misappropriated from the production. A source affiliated with the project indicated that there are serious concerns regarding the financial oversight of Rakt Bramhand. Despite having filmed for only 26 days since the commencement of production in September 2024, a substantial portion of the budget has already been expended.
The situation reportedly came to light following an audit that identified significant financial mismanagement and various accounting discrepancies. In response to these findings, Netflix and D2R Films are believed to have initiated a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of their business operations, both internally and externally, as well as their dealings with third-party vendors. However, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, specific details regarding the irregularities and related issues have not been disclosed.
Revisions during filming and script issues
Mismanagement is clearly apparent in this situation. Which producers have authorized executive producers to sign checks and withdraw funds without proper legal consent? There are allegations that this executive producer has previously engaged in dishonest practices on other projects. An informed industry source suggests that Raj & DK and Netflix should have performed thorough due diligence before his hiring.
The series is facing not only financial challenges but also creative difficulties. It is rumoured that director Rahi Anil Barve and writer Sita R. Menon have been making screenplay revisions during filming, which has frustrated Netflix. Although the streaming service has granted Raj & DK considerable creative freedom, they are struggling to collaborate effectively due to the absence of a finalized script.
Production plans for April filming
Production is still scheduled to proceed in April. Despite these creative and financial challenges, the series remains on track for its next filming phase. The filmmakers are actively preparing for their upcoming outdoor action sequences amid the ongoing investigation into financial matters.
Rahi Anil Barve, known for his acclaimed work on Tumbbad, officially announced Rakt Bramhand in July 2024. This ambitious series, characterized as a grand action fantasy, promises a captivating and intense narrative set in a mythical realm filled with stunning visuals and thrilling action.
With this endeavour, Raj & DK will make their return to Netflix following the moderately successful Guns & Gulaabs.
