It has been seven years since Dulquer Salmaan-starrer Solo hit the big screen. Bejoy Nambiar co-wrote, co-produced, and co-directed this experimental anthology film. 2017 saw the premiere of the movie in Tamil and Malayalam worldwide, with much appreciation from both reviewers and viewers. Dulquer Salmaan plays four different roles in the four segments of the film- Shekhar, Trilok, Siva, and Rudra. He was commended for his ability to shine in each character, particularly for how well he handled the intricacies of each.

Narrative style

Each of the four stories in Solo revolves around one of the four elements—Earth, Fire, Wind, or Water—which are all portrayed as various embodiments of Lord Shiva. Though they may sound cliched, each of these tales offers a unique viewpoint on love and contains poignant moments that many can identify with right away. While certain stories may not resonate with audiences, overall, the filmmakers have made an admirable attempt to offer something fresh to movie buffs.

Technical excellence with striking visuals

The film is visually stunning and compelling; at times, the colors even serve to draw your focus away from the shortcomings in the narrative. The film can be enjoyable to watch if you're occasionally curious to watch something new that was expertly crafted in terms of technicality. 

Dulquer's nuanced performance

Dulquer Salmaan received accolades for his versatility in portraying a heartbroken soldier, a revenge-seeking doctor, a stammering and devastated college student, and an impulsive criminal. He gives one of his best performances to date in both roles, demonstrating his ability to adapt. Even though the film features an excellent ensemble, many of them are underutilized, but help the story progress convincingly. With grace, Dhansika, Neha Sharma, and Sruthy Hariharan have portrayed their characters with ease.
