Three decades have passed since the release of Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, a film that millions of people will never forget for a variety of reasons. The Hindi book Kohbar Ki Shart by Keshav Prasad Mishra served as the inspiration for Rajshri Productions' 1982 film Nadiya Ke Paar, which in turn adapted the story. Raamlaxman, who also wrote a soundtrack consisting of fourteen songs—a very high quantity for that era—contributes musically to the film.

Box office success

With a global revenue of Rs. 2–2.5 billion, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! topped the box office for 1994 upon its release on August 5. When it came out, it was also the highest-grossing Indian film. It helped shift the focus of the Indian cinema industry away from violent themes and towards more subdued storytelling. Even after adjusting for inflation, it remains one of the highest-earning Bollywood films of all time, as well as the first Indian film to make over Rs. 1 billion. It also happens to be the highest-grossing Indian film of the 1990s. Box Office India dubbed it the biggest blockbuster of the modern era.

Two awards, including Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, were bestowed for Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! at the 42nd National Film Awards.
