Plot summary of Jaal: The Trap
In the film, the Mashobra Kaul family—Major Amrish (Amrish Puri), Sudha (Farida Jalal), their daughter, and Ajay (Sunny Deol)—live in the Shimla hills. Neha Pandit's (Tabu) negligence causes Ajay to have two motorbike accidents; as a result, they meet again and eventually fall in love. Even though Ajay learns that Neha is a widow, he remains determined and persuades R. K. Sharma (Anupam Kher), her father-in-law, to bless the couple. Shortly after he bestows his blessing, Junaid Afghani's (Mukesh Rishi) terrorist group, Wafa-e-Alhak, kidnaps Neha. The kidnappers want to release their leader, Naved Rabhani (Ashish Vidyarthi), and Anita Choudhary (Reema Sen), daughter of Bhagwat Choudhary (Virendra Saxena), India's home minister, in exchange for Neha.
Major Amrish Kaul is protecting Anita in New Zealand, and Ajay's mission is to rescue her and bring her to them so he can see Neha alive once more. While in New Zealand, Ajay meets and falls in love with Anita; he then takes her to Junaid, but he plans to rescue Anita and Neha by confronting Junaid. Krishnakant, Neha's father, is actually Captain Rashid and has been plotting to trap Ajay the whole time, whereas she is Naved Rabbani's bride. The government and people label Ajay a terrorist, and after taking Anita away, they toss him from a cliff. After that, Ajay manages to save Anita while maintaining his anonymity, and he sets things right by eliminating all the terrorists, including Neha. Finally, he reunites with Anita.
Critical reception and commercial performance
