Sardar is a spy thriller film featuring actor Karthi in the lead role. The film is directed by PS Mithran, in his first collaboration with the actor. Sardar features Karthi in dual roles, one as a police officer, and other as a disgraced spy who makes a return. The film has completed two years since its release, and if you would like to revisit the film, it can be streamed on Aha Tamil and OTTplay Premium.
Sardar became one of the first Tamil films to be bagged by Aha after the streaming platform began their Tamil division. It stars Rajisha Vijayan, Laila, Raashii Khanna, Chunkey Pandey and others who played important roles in the film. While the film ended on a cliffhanger, the makers soon announced that the sequel is in works with Karthi and PS Mithran reuniting.

Sardar 2 will feature fresh cast like SJ Suryah and Malavika Mohan in prominent roles, with Rajisha Vijayan returning. It is to be noted that recently, a member of the team working on the film died due to the injuries he suffered after the accident on the set of the film. Stunt union member Elumalai feel from a 20ft rostrum accidentally and succumbed to injuries.
George C Williams ISC is the cinematographer and Vijay Velukutty will serve as the editor for the sequel. A release date for the film is yet to be announced. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the music for Sardar 2.
