It's been 19 years since Anubhav Sinha's Dus hit the big screen. Released in 2005, the slick action thriller featured an ensemble cast that included Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Zayed Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Raima Sen, Esha Deol, and Dia Mirza, with Pankaj Kapur serving as the main antagonist. Dus is based on the real-life experiences of seven fictitious members of the Indian Special Investigation Team (SIT). Now is the right time to revisit the film, and you can stream it on JioCinema, Prime Video, ShemarooMe (OTTplay Premium), and Lionsgate Play (OTTplay Premium).

Dus plot summary

Siddharth Dheer (Dutt), the leader of the Indian Anti-Terrorist Squad, and his subordinates actively thwart a terrorist plot to bomb thousands of people in Canada in the film. A mobster named Himmat Mehndi provides clues about the plot to the three feared mafias—Jambval (Kapur), Asif, and Himmat Mehndi. The film then showcases how the squad makes it possible to foil Jambval's nefarious schemes with a nail-biting climax.

Reports suggest that Dus had a fantastic debut weekend at the box office in India. It was considered an above-average earner because of its hefty budget, and it made approximately ₹388.4 million during its whole run at the box office. In 2005, it was the ninth-highest-grossing film.

According to reports, Dus Bahane received the most plays in 2005.

Homage to Mukul S. Anand

Interestingly, Dus pays homage to the late filmmaker Mukul S. Anand, who tragically passed away while filming the unfinished 1997 version of the film, which included Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan as its main stars, along with Raveena Tandon and Shilpa Shetty as the female leads. There were action sequences reminiscent of Sylvester Stallone's work in the film, and the plot revolved around terrorist attacks in Kashmir.

The film's budget of ₹200 million was unparalleled. However, Anand's death led to the film's shelving. The producer, Nitin Manmohan, was the only similarity between his film and the one from 1997, according to filmmaker Anubhav Sinha.
