Vallavan, the 2006 Tamil film written and directed by Silambarasan, who also starred in the lead role, has completed 18 years since its release. If you would like to revisit the romance drama, which also stars Nayanthara and Reema Sen, the film is available on ZEE5, SunNXT, and the OTTplay Premium app to stream.

18 years of Vallavan

Vallavan released in 2006 and marks the directorial debut of actor Silambarasan who also wrote and starred in the lead role. The film has completed 18 years since its release and can be streamed on SunNXT, ZEE5 and the OTTplay Premium app, which is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Besides Silambarasan, Vallavan also stars Nayanthara, Reema Sen, Sandhya, Santhanam and Sathyan in prominent roles. Vallavan opened to mixed reviews but went on to become a box office success. The film revolves around a man who once had an obsessive girlfriend during school. However, she resurfaces in his life he shares with his present girlfriend.


Vallavan is backed by PL Thenappan under Sri Raj Lakshmi Films banner and has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The album of Vallavan was super hit, and marked the reunion of Silambarasan and Yuvan Shankar Raja after Manmadhan.

Silambarasan’s line-up of films

Silambarasan was last seen in Pathu Thala. The actor joined the cast of upcoming Tamil film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The film is directed by Mani Ratnam, and it will mark the first time Silambarasan will be sharing screen space with Kamal. Silambarasan has replaced Dulquer Salmaan in the film. A release date for Thug Life is yet to be announced by the makers.

Meanwhile, Silambarasan will also be working with filmmaker Desingh Periyasamy for a film titled STR 48. Backed by Raaj Kamal Films International, the film’s further details on development are yet to be made by the team.
