Mankatha, the 2013 hit Tamil film headlined by actor Ajith Kumar, has turned 13. The film, which is written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, is one of the massive blockbusters in the actor's filmography and explored a different shade in his performance. Mankatha marked Ajith Kumar’s landmark 50th film. It released on August 31, 2011 and was written and directed by filmmaker Ajith Kumar in his first collaboration with the actor. Mankatha is an action drama, which opened to tremendously positive response upon its release, that it went on to become one of the celebrated films in both Ajith Kumar and Venkat Prabhu’s respective careers.

At a time when superstars are skeptical about doing negative shades, Ajith's portrayal of a corrupt police officer was not only a daring choice but also one of the highlights of the story that made it run for weeks together in theatres.
