Rating: ★★.5

Medical dramas, legal dramas, and biopics each have their distinct genres. However, Tumko Meri Kasam defies categorization, blending elements from various genres without fitting neatly into any of them. While one might describe it as a 'Jack of all trades, master of none,' the film's complexity renders such a description inadequate.

What is Tumko Meri Kasam about

The narrative centers on Dr. Ajay Murdia (Anupam Kher), the founder of Indira IVF, and the challenges he faces in establishing the clinic alongside his wife, Indira (Adah Sharma). The film oscillates between past and present, depicting Ajay's involvement in a legal dispute. This non-linear storytelling can test the audience's endurance, particularly as the first hour drags on.

Vikram Bhatt's writing and direction suffer from an overemphasis on the romantic subplot between Jay and Indira, which becomes tedious. The interactions between Ajay and Indira are prolonged and lack vitality. Additionally, the editing by Kuldip Mehan appears lackluster, contributing to the film's lengthy runtime of two hours and 30 minutes.

While the second half gains some momentum, viewers may find themselves fatigued by that point. Anupam Kher stands out as the film's redeeming feature, effortlessly embodying his character. He has reached a level of proficiency in such roles that he could perform them effortlessly. Adah Sharma and Ishwak Singh, portraying the younger versions of Ajay and Indira, have their shining moments but are hindered by the script, with Adah particularly faltering in pivotal scenes.

The supporting cast, including Meherrzan B Mazda as the antagonist and Esha Deol as a lawyer, deliver competent performances, yet their characters feel insufficiently developed. In a crucial moment during the climax, Anupam's character must represent himself in court and makes a significant argument, leading one to question the necessity of the lawyer's role if the client is capable of advocating for himself.

To sum it up

Overall, Tumko Meri Kasam has a wafer-thin plot that fails to engage. It's a boring affair that fails to deliver on its promise. Even die-hard Anupam fans might find themselves checking their watches. Kasam se.
