The Witch Story:

Park Mi-jeong enters high school, but anyone who attempts to befriend her either suffers harm or meets an untimely demise. As a result, she acquires the moniker of The Witch, and this curse haunts her throughout her life, until her childhood infatuation resolves to take action regarding the predicament.

The Witch Review:

The Witch presents a k drama that captivates the audience from its very introduction. While it unfolds at a leisurely pace, it exudes an air of mystery. However, this atmosphere is not fully realized in the first episode.

The narrative transports viewers to a casino setting, where individuals are evaluated based on their appearances and behaviours. This marks the beginning of a storyline rich with business potential.

The series commences with a gradual and somewhat predictable pace, particularly with Park Jin-young portraying Lee Dong-jin. The character of Hyun Bong-sik, a bumbling detective, does little to enhance the narrative. Nevertheless, the unexpected cameo by Ju Ji-hoon is a delightful addition.

Lim Jae-hyuk's character, while seemingly unrelated, is connected to Dong-jin. Despite their contrasting personalities, he shares a friendship with major crime detective Kim Jung-hyeok.

Roh Jeong-eui's Park Mi-jeong is introduced in a manner befitting her character. She embodies simplicity and mystery, instantly capturing Dong-jin's attention. Their history dates back to childhood, where Dong-jin experienced love for her, only to part ways, a common theme in childhood romances. Her storyline evokes memories of Kim Soo-Hyun and Seo Yea-ji's It's Okay To Not Be Okay, albeit with a more dramatic twist, as the plot stagnates in her school life for an extended period. When the narrative finally progresses, it may seem intriguing at first glance, yet it ultimately lacks substantial depth.

The episode concludes with a compelling revelation that may have gone unnoticed: Mi-jeong could be under a curse, yet there exists a potential path to its resolution.

Jang Hee-ryung has yet to make her debut in the series, but for the time being, The Witch maintains a slow yet somewhat intriguing atmosphere. One might even describe it as a more dramatized interpretation of It's Okay To Not Be Okay, emphasizing the theme of healing through connections among like-minded individuals.

The Witch Verdict:

The Witch presents a gradual yet captivating narrative. The creators suggest an underlying potential that has yet to be fully explored. In terms of the inaugural episode, it evokes a sense of familiarity reminiscent of It's Okay To Not Be Okay, albeit with a touch more dramatization. Subsequent episodes are likely to clarify the series' true direction. At this stage, the drama appears to be experiencing a buildup phase.
