Dasaradh Ram (portrayed by Samuthirakani) is a dedicated government official who strives to provide his son, Raghava (played by Dhanraj), with an exemplary upbringing. Ramana Raghavam is a film crafted by comedian-turned-director Dhanraj Koranani. At first glance, it may seem like a typical father-son narrative, a common trope in South Indian cinema. However, the introduction of the central conflict by Dhanraj shifts the narrative in a more intriguing direction.

The initial half of the film predominantly revolves around family dynamics, featuring various incidents that suggest the protagonist will ultimately evolve and assume responsibility for his family. Yet, the film's most captivating element lies in the protagonist's unexpected decline rather than his improvement. This unforeseen development serves as a significant highlight, maintaining the audience's interest throughout. The exploration of the son's negative feelings towards his father is portrayed compellingly, a theme that is seldom addressed in Telugu cinema.

Nevertheless, the film does exhibit a notable shortcoming. Director Dhanraj could have explored more thoroughly the reasons behind the son's misguided choices and the failures in his upbringing. Despite having sufficient time to elaborate on this crucial aspect, he hastily transitions to the conflict, which diminishes the impact of the son's drastic change. Consequently, while the father's anguish is palpable, the motivations behind the son's transformation remain inadequately conveyed. The emotional conflict between father and son is insufficiently developed in the film's early segments.

In contrast, the second half proves to be more captivating than the first, largely due to its skillfully executed plot twists. The protagonist's journey towards becoming a better individual is portrayed effectively, albeit occurring later in his life. A notable strength of the film is Dhanraj's refusal to depict himself as a hero; he fully embraces his character's flaws. Typically, in such narratives, a few virtuous actions from the father suffice to alter the son's perspective, but in this case, a series of significant events are necessary for that transformation. The film's conclusion is particularly impactful, underscoring the notion that defying parental authority carries consequences.

In terms of performance, Samuthirakani excels in his role, infusing the film with significant emotional resonance. His depiction of a devoted yet powerless father is praiseworthy. Dhanraj not only demonstrates strong directorial skills but also offers a commendable performance. Nevertheless, it is suggested that a more experienced lead actor could have enhanced the film's overall impact. Pramodini, portraying the mother, delivers an outstanding performance, while Satya contributes some light-hearted moments.

Arun Chiluveru’s musical score is satisfactory, featuring a robust background score that effectively supports the narrative. Although the production values and design could have been improved, the editing is sharp, and the dialogues and lyrics carry depth.

Dhanraj makes a noteworthy directorial debut with a familiar father-son narrative, opting for an unconventional twist by casting himself in a negative role. However, the absence of a clearly defined motive for the son's actions diminishes the emotional weight of the story. Despite these limitations, Ramana Raghavan remains a worthwhile option for weekend viewing.

Overall, Ramam Raghavan presents a commendable family drama that features a surprising conflict. The latter half and the climax are executed effectively, showcasing Dhanraj's capabilities as a director. Despite a somewhat unstable beginning, the film is worth watching for its poignant conclusion.
