Seo Dongju is caught up in a massive plot that seems to guarantee his brutal exit from service. Will he throw in the towel or go for revenge?

Review:

Buried Hearts kicks off in a seriously dark way, staying true to its theme. As expected, the series is packed with cinematic moments right from the start.

Just when you think things can’t get worse, a flashback reveals the reality of the situation. The real power in this Korean household comes from a man who appears to be the ideal husband but is actually pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Park Hyung-sik makes a striking entrance, conveying a lot with just his eyes. He takes his time to set the stage for what’s coming—showing that he means business and warning others not to cross him. He’s definitely evolved since his role in Strong Girl Bong-soon, both in action and in intimidation.

Lee Hae-young shines as Heo Il-do, with his changing expressions hinting at the many secrets lurking beneath the surface.

Huh Joon-ho’s character, Yeom Jang-seon, is at the height of his power, and there’s a constant battle to seize that power, which is central to the story of Buried Hearts. While it takes its time to unfold, the moment the plot twists is something you won’t want to miss.

Hyung-sik’s romance, which revolves around a painting, gives off strong déjà vu vibes but hasn’t quite reached the level of the original couple yet. Part of this is because Seo Dong-ju is more focused on his career than on romance, even though he’s in a serious relationship and contemplating marriage. Still, we get some intimate scenes, including him shirtless, flashing that charming smile.

Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, Seon Dongju’s life takes a shocking turn. This moment sets the stage for a revenge plot, but we’re still waiting to see Hyung-sik unleash his full power.

Verdict:

Buried Hearts is off to a solid start and looks pretty promising, but it kicks off as a slow burn. There are definitely some standout cinematic moments that showcase the talent of Park Hyung-sik.
