Story:

Ji-uk is back, and he is now working in the same office as Hae-yeong. They both have a different reaction to the situation and everything it leads to. Episode 5 of No Gain No Love explores the very theme.

Review:

Episode 5 of No Gain No Love finally hints at Ji-uk (Kim Young-dae)'s mystery. He finally gets news from his mother, Jung Yu-kyung, but it's not through her, and all we can say is that it's a messy situation. It, however, provides clarity on Hae-yeong (Shin Min-ah) and Ji-uk's sudden and abrupt meeting in the previous episode.

Jeon Hye-won as Yu-lin has a bigger role to play this time. She, as always, is at the center of embarrassing situations and somehow shines through them, although not as much as Shin Min-ah.

Ji-uk pulls Hae-yeong into a corner to talk, and the scene becomes a memorable moment in the episode. Her reaction after is the cutest thing. Young-dae with his smile leaves you charmed in the extended scene.

Hae-yeong has another crazy idea. Ji-uk's reaction when you think the scene has come to an end is epic. The face zoom works brilliantly. His makeover is also something that will leave you in splits.

Ja-yeon (Han Ji-hyun)'s story continues but with Secretary Yeo (Lee Yoo-jin). They share a cute moment, but the chemistry is missing. The fiction after is weird, even if it tries hard to be hilarious.

Gyun-hyun's introduction to the episode is good. His story parallels with Ja-yeong's thoughts, and that works too well for the scene. All scenes with him are good this time around.

And the show does it again! Ji-uk's beauty gets highlighted even in this episode, leaving one-and-all (including the viewers, both men and women) mesmerized.

A scene with Hae-yeong and a child makes up for a big part of the episode. It is well-executed, for it keeps you gripped about the next move from everyone involved. Ji-uk gets a heroic entry, but his action scenes are not as amazing as the romantic ones. Shin Min-ah, on the other hand, is super fierce, thus giving more of an edge to her personality as Hae-yeong.

And the mystery with Ji-uk slowly unfolds. In this episode, you get to know why he lived the way he did - in solace and a dangerous neighbourhood. Even in what should have been a serious scene, the makers find a way to make you laugh. That is the beauty of this show and the episode, too.

Hui-seong (Joo Min-kyung) and Hae-yeong's sibling fights continue, but they have become more mature.

Ja-yeon and Gyu-hyun have a second meeting through this episode. The same is as intense as it can get. And once it ends, it gets funny for a moment (which really takes away all the pain of the scene). Gyu-hyun turns heroic right after, but it is still hilarious to watch him try.

Ahn Woo-jae (Song Won-seok) has a scene this time around, too, but it's almost next to nil. Ji-uk is the one who shines even in the very scene. He has made a decision and finds a way to execute it at the perfect time. Needless to say, it leaves a pretty huge impact. From the looks of it, he's going to shine in the next episode, too.

Verdict:

No Gain No Love episode 5 is about Ji-uk. Although Shin Min-ah has her moments, he is the one who takes the cake. It is also about Gyu-hyun, who finally gets to play his part after so long.
