Nesippaya Movie Story:

Diya (Aditi Shankar) finds herself falling for Arjun (Akash Murali) back in their college days, and they eventually become a couple. But things take a turn when Diya relocates to Bangalore for work, and Arjun decides to follow her. His impulsive behavior and need to be around her start to annoy Diya, leading to their breakup. When Diya gets a job transfer to Portugal, her life takes a wild twist as she gets wrongfully accused of murdering her boss's son and ends up in jail. Upon hearing this, Arjun rushes to Portugal to save her.

Nesippaya Movie Review:

Now that you've checked out the plot of Nesippaya, it might remind you of a certain Tamil film from 2008 where two lovers get torn apart when one of them heads abroad and gets wrongly accused of a crime. Both stories feature a local Tamil lawyer who steps in to defend the innocent lead. Nesippaya marks director Vishnuvardhan's comeback to Tamil cinema after nearly a decade, delivering a fast-paced thriller sprinkled with romance, though at times it seems to overlook fully engaging the audience with its storyline.

The film kicks off slowly, introducing us to the main characters, Diya and Arjun. We get a few cute moments before they actually start dating, but we never really see what draws them to each other or what keeps them together. Arjun moves in with Diya in Bengaluru for a low-paying job, simply because he wants to be close to her. While they manage to live in a nice, furnished place with a big balcony, the reasons for their relationship remain a bit unclear. But that’s a discussion for later, as the plot quickly shifts to Portugal, where the couple finds themselves in hot water. Diya ends up in a women’s prison surrounded by tough inmates, while Arjun somehow pieces together clues and uncovers evidence in a foreign country. It gets even more far-fetched when the local lawyer Indrani (Kalki Koechlin) struggles to help and relies on Diya to share her side of the story.

Vishnuvardhan plays around with the story to make things easier for Arjun. This guy isn’t shy about showing off his strength or even threatening a school bus full of kids to get his way. It seems like Nesippaya could have thrown more obstacles at its main character, especially since he’s in unfamiliar territory. Sarath Kumar and Khushboo do a great job with their brief appearances, making their characters sharp and to the point. Their roles, which become important towards the end, feel like they were added just for a last-minute surprise.

Nesippaya is definitely worth a watch since it keeps the energy up throughout. Akash makes a solid first impression, and Aditi has more screen time compared to her earlier roles. Kalki fits perfectly into her character as a European of Tamil descent, making it look effortless. Overall, Nesippaya doesn’t give you a chance to pause and think, and it almost pulls that off. Even with some low points and questionable writing, it still manages to be entertaining to a degree.

Nesippaya Movie Review:

Nesippaya is an exciting thriller mixed with some romance. The main characters might not resonate with us, but there are parts that really grab your attention. While some twists and character development feel a bit wasted, Nesippaya still manages to be a solid watch that had the potential to be even more impressive.
