Rating – 2

The Mehta Boys, under the direction of Boman Irani, aims to delve into the complexities of a troubled father-son dynamic; however, it ultimately fails to resonate. While the concept of generational discord and ego struggles is intriguing, the film does not manage to maintain viewer interest and falls short of its potential. The performances, though adequate, do not compensate for a script that feels tired and uninspired, resulting in a rather dull viewing experience.

Boman Irani, portraying the lead character Shiv Mehta, presents a performance that lacks nuance. His depiction of a retired widower entrenched in his old habits could have been engaging, yet it comes across as monotonous and repetitive. Avinash Tiwary, in the role of his son Amay, contributes little to the character, whose development is excruciatingly slow and predictable. Although the film attempts to address the emotional repercussions of their fraught relationship, it fails to evoke genuine concern for the characters or their dilemmas.

The pacing of the film is painfully sluggish, with extended scenes that meander without significant progression. The narrative feels overly didactic, and while the themes of father-son conflict are relatable, they are treated in such a superficial manner that they lack lasting resonance. Supporting actors Puja Sarup and Shreya Chaudhry, despite their competent performances, cannot rescue the film from its descent into mediocrity. The character interactions appear contrived, and by the time the film reaches its intended emotional peak, it feels like a missed opportunity.

In summary, The Mehta Boys is a lacklustre and uninspired drama that fails to provide meaningful entertainment or emotional connection. It struggles to engage the audience, and the combination of underwhelming performances and sluggish pacing renders it a forgettable experience. For those seeking a compelling family drama, this film does not meet expectations, despite its initially promising premise.
