Rudhra Garuda Purana movie story: When Manu, the son of MLA Devi Shetty (Vinod Alva), mysteriously disappears, Inspector Rudhra (Rishi) is assigned to carry out an unofficial investigation to prevent a media uproar surrounding the case. The situation becomes increasingly complex upon the discovery that Manu has been abducted and was last seen boarding the 17A Kaveri bus, a route that has not been in operation for 25 years due to a tragic incident. Rudhra encounters additional challenges in his investigation as all evidence leads to an enigmatic individual known as Muniraju, whose true identity remains elusive. Will he be able to connect the dots and rescue Manu before it is too late?

Rudhra Garuda Purana movie review: A decommissioned bus service that mysteriously resurfaces after twenty-five years, intertwined with a missing person’s investigation, certainly presents an intriguing premise for a film. The trailer appeared promising in certain aspects, leading to the expectation that the overall experience would be satisfactory. Unfortunately, this was not the case, resulting in Rudhra Garuda Purana being categorized among films that held potential but ultimately lost their way.

The film, being a revenge narrative rather than a mystery thriller, maybe a significant factor in its shortcomings, or perhaps my anticipation of a gripping investigative story was misplaced. While it is acceptable to lead the audience with certain expectations and then diverge from them, a compelling resolution is essential, which Rudhra Garuda Purana fails to deliver. The motivations behind the kidnapping of the MLA’s son become evident far too early, diminishing the impact of director KS Nandeesh’s eventual revelation. Once this connection is established, there is little left to maintain interest.

Rishi, in the role of the protagonist, displays sincerity and embodies the cop persona effectively, yet it feels insufficient. In cop dramas, audiences typically expect a larger-than-life character, impactful dialogues, and impressive action sequences. Rishi’s portrayal leans more towards a relatable, boy-next-door image, which undermines the intended effect of his character, Rudhra, especially when he asserts that criminals who boast about their backgrounds have gone into hiding.

There are several action sequences throughout the film; however, they lack significant impact. The familiar trope of multiple attackers confronting the protagonist one at a time is employed, with each adversary waiting their turn before being swiftly defeated. This scenario establishes a certain expectation regarding the physical prowess displayed by the hero during these encounters. Regardless of how unrealistic or defying of physics a manoeuvre may appear, it is this element of excitement that is notably absent in Rudhra Garuda Purana.

Priyanka Kumar, unfortunately, receives a minimal role; even her lively song "Adeneno" fails to survive the editing process. The brevity of her character is such that her complete removal would not alter the film's narrative. Giri Shivanna is introduced as Rudhra’s assistant in Mysuru, intended to inject some humour, but he is subsequently overlooked for a significant portion of the second half.

What Rudhra Garuda Purana truly required was a compelling antagonist. The enigmatic character Muniraju was described as merciless and malevolent, which warranted a dramatic reveal and strong casting. Unfortunately, the film delivers neither. The remaining cast, including KS Sridhar, Shivaraj KR Pete, and Avinash, fulfil their roles adequately.

Rudhra Garuda Purana movie verdict: Rishi’s Rudhra Garuda Purana is not entirely without merit; however, it certainly has the potential to be significantly improved. While the concept appears promising on the surface, the execution leaves much to be desired. It is possible that viewing it with lowered expectations may enhance its appeal.
