Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan story

Salim (Vijay Antony) is part of the secret agent forces, and one day loses his wife after a counter attack. It so happened the night the incident happened, it had rained, paving way for the title that refers to the protagonist’s distaste towards the rainy weather. After being helped by his senior colleague (Sarath Kumar) to start a new life on the Andaman Islands, Salim befriends a family that runs an Atho restaurant, and has to confront a ruthless loan shark Daali (Daali Dhananjay).

Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan review

Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan is primarily set against the backdrop of Andaman Islands, and pretty much about a stranger who begins to witness the lives of strangers around him turn upside down. Salim befriends Parameswaran aka Burma (Pruthvi Ambar) and his mother (Saranya Ponvannan) who run the restaurant, the girl Burma is in love with Sowmya (Megha Akash), her beagle which ends up with Salim who takes care of its fractured leg, and Daali, the gangster who is there to create enough drama for the film to get going.

Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan is a film that heavily relies on its racy screenplay and cuts that rapidly advances to next scene, that there is barely any stop gap to understand the world of these characters. We are given a brief flashback of the tragedy occurred in Salim’s life, and we know the new land is not going to give him the peace that he is looking for. When the template is laid out, and not so unique, the investment on the characters is demanded and that is where Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan begins to slope.

To start, even as tragedy after tragedy occur to each of these characters, none stay back because the characters from the world of Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan seem to live a life that is distant from reality. A ruthless man who does not bat an eyelid as he passively threatens a man to take his own life, gets the realization of his wrongdoings when the hero lectures on the good and evil during the climax. If only it take a speech for every thug to convert into good-hearted man.. why is there a need for action thriller films?

A host of known faces galore the screen, but their characters seem to be one-note and can be boxed within typical characterisations. Megha Akash plays a damsel in distress, Pruthvi Ambar is a roadside Romeo who becomes the first bridge through which the bad meets the good, Sarathkumar is a senior officer who pretty much stays at a distance, and cop Surla (Murali Sharma) who acts as a menace to both good and bad. These characters, apart from giving momentous drama, does not have much scope to create an impression or contribute to the story.

Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan verdict

Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan has a racy screenplay and things keep happening very soon that expected. The lack of breathing moments can in a way be helpful for you to try being invested in the film, but after a point, becomes a tedious method of storytelling.
