Maeri Story: The latest series from ZEE5, Maeri, features prominent performances by Sai Deodhar, Tanvi Mundle, Chinmay Mandlekar, Bhushan Patil, and Sagar Deshmukh. The narrative centers around Tara Deshpande, a devoted mother to Manasvi, portrayed by Tanvi Mundle. Following the horrific gang rape of her daughter by a group of influential young men, Tara seeks assistance from the legal system and law enforcement. When justice eludes her through official channels, she takes matters into her own hands in a quest to avenge her daughter. Will Tara succeed in her pursuit of justice?

Maeri Review:

Bollywood has a history of depicting mothers' struggles to obtain justice for their children in the face of wrongdoing. ZEE5's Maeri is a poignant addition to this genre, reminiscent of Sridevi's Mom and Raveena Tandon’s Maatr.

Set against the backdrop of Mumbai, Maeri delves into the lives of the middle-class Deshpande family, consisting of Hemant (Sagar Deshmukh), Tara, and their daughter Manasvi. Their ordinary existence is shattered when Manasvi is brutally assaulted and abandoned by Rohit Jamwal (Yash Malhotra) and his associates, who come from a powerful background. The series follows a somewhat predictable trajectory as it chronicles Tara's unwavering determination to secure justice for her daughter after the legal system fails her. The title, Maeri, aptly reflects the theme of maternal justice, as it translates to "mother."

Despite its predictable plot, the series struggles to deliver a gripping narrative. Tara confronts a corrupt system, societal biases, and her own desire for vengeance, all while embodying the essence of maternal love.

In terms of performances, Sai Deodhar excels as Tara, portraying a fiercely protective mother. She is depicted not only as a dedicated chemistry teacher but also as a nurturing parent to Manasvi. Her unique expressions and acting prowess carry the series.

However, the seven-episode series occasionally loses momentum, as viewers may find themselves anticipating the outcomes for Manasvi, Tara, and their quest for justice.

Maeri Verdict:

Maeri, crafted by Sachinn Darekkar as both writer and director, unfolds the poignant tale of a mother striving for justice following the brutal gang-rape of her daughter. Although the storyline may be somewhat foreseeable, the series resonates emotionally as it highlights a mother's unwavering sacrifices for her child. While the narrative may falter at certain moments, Maeri remains a commendable option for those in search of a touching story.

Currently, Maeri is available for streaming on ZEE5, and it can also be accessed with an OTTplay Premium subscription.
