Love Under Construction plot
Vinod is a young Non-Resident Indian who returns to his native Kerala with aspirations of constructing a home and marrying his girlfriend, Gouri. However, upon his arrival, he is confronted with the harsh realities that challenge his ambitions.
Love Under Construction review
In the trailer for Love Under Construction, Neeraj Madhav’s character, Vinod, poses a thought-provoking question: “What if the narratives of Lalettan's Mithunam and Varavelupu converged?” This intriguing concept is brought to life in 2025 with Love Under Construction, where a Malayali NRI youth endeavors to realize his dream of homeownership, which inadvertently complicates his relationship with Gouri, portrayed by Gouri G Kishan. Despite their modern personas, Vinod encounters challenges reminiscent of those faced by Mohanlal’s characters, from navigating bureaucratic hurdles to dealing with unreliable contractors.
Directed by Vishnu Raghav, known for Vaashi, this six-episode series humorously captures the struggles of anyone in Kerala attempting to build their own house through Vinod’s journey. The initial episodes introduce the main characters—Vinod, Gouri, and Pappettan (Aju Varghese)—and effectively lay the groundwork for this Malayalam web series available on JioHotstar.
While Saiju Kurup's Jai Mahendran series on SonyLiv explored the operations of a tehsildar’s office, and Sharaf U Dheen and Nithya Menen's Masterpeace on JioHotstar focused on a married couple, Love Under Construction adeptly navigates both realms, illustrating the intricacies of the construction industry alongside the workings of a registrar’s office.
Vishnu Raghav, who also authored the series, humorously critiques the ‘thanta vibe’—a Gen Z term describing traditional Malayali men—who express discontent upon encountering women in shorts or smoking, with one character even referencing The Great Indian Kitchen.

Despite the numerous technological advancements and the active engagement in WhatsApp groups, the practice of surveillance by neighbors and so-called 'well-wishers' remains prevalent in Kerala, serving as a recurring theme throughout the series.
The choice of creative producers to utilize this medium for storytelling allows for the development of female characters and other supporting roles, ensuring they possess their own character arcs rather than merely serving to advance the protagonist's narrative.
However, it is disheartening to witness a woman apologizing to a man after initially presenting a strong demeanor, especially in a series that strives to challenge traditional stereotypes about women. While this moment is pertinent to the plot's progression, the creators could have approached this 'minor' scene with greater sensitivity.
Nonetheless, the comedy-drama series progresses smoothly, bolstered by a robust script and the authentic performances of its leading actors. Neeraj Madhav, who has already made a mark in the digital realm with Hindi series like The Family Man, makes a commendable entry into the Malayalam OTT landscape. He portrays Vinod with a commendable blend of humor and emotional depth.

Gouri, recognized for her roles in both Malayalam and Tamil cinema, is well-suited for a character that shares her name. She resonates with the sentiments of contemporary women, reflecting their perspectives and fashion choices.
Aju Varghese delivers a seamless performance as cousin Papettan, embodying a blend of charm and humor. The creators have also succeeded in adding depth to Anand Manmadhan's character, Jiji, a dubious contractor. Ann Jameela Saleem, along with Manjusree Nair and Kiran Peethambaran, provides strong support to the main characters. This Malayalam web series, with episodes lasting approximately 30 minutes, is produced by M Renjith, who is also involved in the production of Mohanlal's Thudarum.
Love Under Construction verdict
Love Under Construction presents a delightful entertainment experience led by Neeraj Madhav, Gouri G Kishan, and Aju Varghese. Vishnu Raghav's Malayalam web series offers a refreshing perspective on modern relationships and life aspirations.
Love Under Construction is available for streaming on JioHotstar in multiple languages, such as Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
